Hatch: Revolution - 22nd February Writers Line Up
Jessica Balmer
The Night is Ours
Jessica is an actor, writer, facilitator for the National Youth Theatre and founding member of Child Creatives. Her recent work includes theatre, film and commercial.
The Night is Ours is a reaction to the horrific events surrounding Sarah Everard, Sabina Nessa and countless other women and their murders. It is a galvanising rally cry for female safety at night. It reflects the fearful checklist a woman must undertake when venturing out after sundown and how I have had enough. The night should not belong to the prowlers - it belongs to us all.

Charlotte is after a big scoop for her school newspaper. Local councillor, Katie, is happy to help. That is, until the questions get a little too close for comfort. A pressure-cooker black comedy about privilege, class, uprising and self-worth.
Jacob Freda
You Fat Bastard
Jacob is an actor, director, and writer currently living in Bristol. He was involved at the previous Hatch scratch night, where his dark comedy piece 'Bad Luck' was performed by Charlie Bentley.
'You Fat Bastard' is a funny, unfiltered look at how society views the male body. A cross between theatre and stand-up, it questions the double standards that exist when looking at male body positivity.
Eloise Westwood
My Lady Friend
Eloise is an actor who graduated from Manchester School of Theatre in 2019. Her credits all consist of Eloise acting other people’s words. This is the first piece she has written and is inspired by someone close to her heart.
This piece is about the misconceptions we make and the power that comes from marching to the beat of your own drum. It is about a woman afraid of the world around her and seeking validation in people who she perceives to be the same.

He trained as an actor at both Rose Bruford, and then Italia Conti Acting where he graduated with BA (Hons) in acting, as well as spending time with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He has performed in the West End and around the country, and founded Elegy.

Henriette Laursen
Escape
Henriette Laursen, actor, writer and director, educated from East15 MFA Acting in 2019. Henriette has been writing and co-creating theatre pieces since 2016, some of them being ‘Nordisk Gravøl’ at Teater Grob in 2019, and her one-person show called ‘Going Straight to Gay… or something in-between’ in London and Copenhagen in 2020-2021, and directed 'Hurra for deg, Jenny!' at Sennepen Scene in Oslo. Alongside theatre she’s worked on numerous short film productions such as 'The Right Reverend', ’Wiped’ and feature films like ’Deadly Nightshade’.
This personal piece explores how assault and trauma becomes the root to addiction. To show how it's all intertwined, and how abusers tend to become their own abusers. To change the way we view addictions - to understand the complexity, so that we can revolutionise the way we deal with it. To understand ourselves better through it. But to also bring hope and clarity. To let people know, that whether or not they deal with addictions, they may find relatedness through the exploration of traumabond experiences. Letting people know, they are not alone in this.
